There have been several fires throughout the valley, and we have been watching from afar how they progressed. Now, we have one just a few miles from us in Alpine. At around 2 pm, July 3rd, Trent called me and asked about the fire he could see from the freeway. I didn't know what he was talking about but went outside to find just a small plume of white smoke. I thought it was a small structure that was already being contained. 10 mins later I decided to look again, and this is what I saw...
Within an hour or so, this fire had traveled up the side of the mounting almost reaching the top!
By about 4 or so, it had made it to the top and crested over to the other side.
This traveled so fast, it was unreal to watch! Luckily the breeze was in our favor and the firefighters favor and no homes were impacted just a small barn.
Ammon commented that it looked like a volcano. He was right.
All kinds of aircraft were up and running. Lone Peak High School became the command center and air pad for these helicopters.
During fireworks you could see the glowing of the flames on the mountainside. Today we did receive some rain and hope it helped the situation.
